Admissions policies and procedures are tentative as of this date (Septemeber
25,2008). They will be reviewed by the director, and approved by the Board of
Trustees before these policies and procedures are in effect for applicants.

Policies
Twelve schools, at twelve sites, comprise the Academies of National/Global
Economic Leadership, an educational network. This network of schools has admission
policies, as follows:
- An equal number of young women and young men will be admitted. This is applicable to the network as a whole, and to each of the sites individually.
- Only students who are ready for the eleventh grade will be admitted.
- Applicants are expected to be mature. Successful applicants will have reached the age of 16 prior to the first day of class.
- Applicants are expected to be motivated. Successful applicants will have completed a three-week orientation course during the summer before the first day of class.
- Applicants are admitted in one of three categories:
- Category U. A student gifted in language acquisition, with a strong
interest in mastery of the English language, and study of two other international
languages (for example, French, Chinese, Hausa, Hindi, Latin, Portuguese,
Spanish or Swahili).
- Category V. A student active in extra-curricular activities with demonstrated
gifts of leadership (for example, student government, debate team, Boys'
Nation, 4-H, Key Club, newspaper, community service, etc.).
- Category W. A student with demonstrated achievement in civics or history
(or other comparable high school studies) and interest in the study of such
disciplines as economics, geography or leadership studies.
An equal number of students will be admitted in each category. This applies to the network as a whole, and to each of the twelve sites individually.
- Five out of every six students will be North Carolina residents. Determination of residence status will coincide with the procedures used by the University of North Carolina.
- One out of every six students will be a resident of:
- Brazil
- the Republic of Croatia
- the Republic of Estonia
- Iceland
- Japan
- the Republic of Korea (South)
- Malta
- Mauritius
- Saudi Arabia
- Switzerland
- the Republic of South Africa
- These international students are required to have sponsorship, and to pay
at least $25,000 tuition and $15,000 in residence fees annually to the State
of North Carolina. The Governor of North Carolina, or the Governor's representative,
will be authorized to make tuition waivers for some international students,
and to establish standards for their admission.

Procedures
North Carolina residents will be admitted by district allocation, based on
thirteen (13) districts identical to Congressional districts, as determined
by the year 2020 census and the North Carolina General Assembly.
- Applicants will have the opportunity to rank the twelve school sites in order of preference. This ranking of site preferences will be considered.
- If the number of applicants exceeds the number of available spaces in the dormitories, a lottery will be employed to make random selections for the sake of equity. All qualified applicants are eligible for the lottery.
